On Friday, April 3, the US Army lost two aircraft participating in the war with Iran. In addition to the previously known downed F-15 fighter, an A-10 Thunderbolt II crashed in the Strait of Hormuz, the New York Times reported and CNN.
Two government sources told the newspaper that the A-10 pilot was rescued, without revealing other details. CNN sources added that the pilot of the A-10 was able to maneuver the plane outside Iranian airspace before successfully exiting it.
In turn, Iranian media announced that an American A-10 plane was shot down and crashed into the Arabian Gulf. The American command has not yet officially commented on the loss of the A-10.
CNN wrote that A-10 attack aircraft are participating in an operation to search for the pilot of the downed F-15. It was reported that the Iranians tried to shoot down the helicopters participating in the operation. The US military was said to be unharmed.
