On April 9, the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Korenkov, announced that due to floods in Chechnya and Dagestan, a state of emergency had been declared.

“Taking into account the current situation and taking into account the reports we heard, it was decided to classify the situation in the territory of the Republic of Dagestan and the Chechen Republic as a federal emergency and determine a federal response level,” the minister said at a meeting in Makhachkala.

Floods in Dagestan began on the night of April 5 due to heavy rains. Homes in cities and villages were flooded, and water and electricity supplies began to be interrupted in the area. Avalanches and mudflows have occurred in the mountains. The flood killed six people, including three children. More than six thousand people were affected by the floods. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as of April 9, 1,091 residential buildings, 1,146 household plots and 70 road sections remained under water in eight settlements in Dagestan.

Before that, there were floods in the North Caucasus at the end of March, affecting Dagestan and Chechnya. According to the authorities, more than three thousand homes were damaged in Chechnya, and residents of Gudermes and many other settlements were evacuated. 30 bridges were damaged: 15 car and 15 pedestrian bridges.
