Medvedev became the editor-in-chief of textbooks on social studies – Meduza

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev has become editor-in-chief of new textbooks on social studies for grades 9 to 11, Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Olga Kolodarova said.

“Comments, suggestions, page-by-page editing – all this is reflected not only in the final version of the textbook, but also in the new federal standards and work programs in social studies,” the Deputy Minister said at the presentation of the textbooks.

The team of authors of the new textbook included professional lawyers, economists, sociologists and historians.

Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Sergei Kravtsov previously stated that as of September 1, social studies will be excluded from the curriculum for grades 8, and the subject will continue to be studied in grades 9-11.

In 2023, the Russian authorities updated textbooks on general history and Russian history for grades 10 and 11. Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky was involved in writing textbooks.

Meduza asked historian Alexei Uvarov to carefully read again two new history textbooks for high school students, which caused a storm of criticism. It’s worse than you think
