The BBC Russian service published it on its website Website and YouTube channel The 2026 Oscar-winning documentary Mr. Nobody vs. Putin.
As the post notes, due to licensing restrictions, the film is only available for viewing in 13 countries: Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Uzbekistan.
The film’s description says: “For viewers from Russia using a VPN: Please change the country in your VPN provider’s settings to one of the countries listed to be able to watch the film.”
“Mr. Nobody vs. Putin”, by American director David Borenstein and Karabash videographer Pavel Talankin, won the “Best Documentary Feature” category at the 98th Academy Awards on March 15.
The film tells how the Russian state imposed propaganda on schoolchildren during the war. The film is based on video materials that Talankin shot at the Karabash school after the start of the large-scale Russian-Ukrainian war – classes, meetings, festive evenings, lessons. In 2024, Talankin left Russia, taking the footage with him.
On March 26, the Chelyabinsk court banned the distribution of the film “Mr. Nobody vs. Putin” in Russia. The next day, the Russian Ministry of Justice declared Pavel Talankin a “foreign agent.”
