Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz again – Meduza

Iranian authorities announced that the Strait of Hormuz was once again “under the strict management and control” of the country’s armed forces, the Associated Press reported.

The Iranian Joint Forces Command warned in a statement that it would prevent shipping movement through the Strait of Hormuz as long as the United States closes Iranian ports.

President Donald Trump announced yesterday that the United States will continue to close Iranian ports. According to him, the blockade will continue until Iran concludes an agreement with the United States regarding, among other things, Tehran’s nuclear program.

Iran announced on April 17 that it would open the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil supplies usually pass, to ships. This happened after Israel concluded a truce with the Lebanese Hezbollah group. The Iranian Foreign Ministry said that the strait will be open while the truce is in effect. At the same time, the United States did not lift the blockade on Iranian ports.

On April 17, Meduza described in detail the balance of power and possible additional scenarios for the development of events around the Strait of Hormuz, including a scenario in which the strait would be closed to ships again.
