Timur Arbuzov, representing Russia, won the gold medal in the weight category up to 81 kilograms at the European Judo Championships held in Tbilisi. Defeated Georgian athlete Tato Grijalashvili.
Arbuzov is 22 years old. He is the current world champion and last year’s European Championship winner.
For Russia, this is the second gold of the tournament – earlier, Murat Shubanov distinguished himself in the category up to 66 kilograms. He achieved a landslide victory in the final over Finnish judoka Lukas Saha.
The tournament in Georgia, which takes place from April 16 to 19, has become important from an organizational standpoint. Russian athletes participate in competitions under the national flag and with the singing of the national anthem.
Previously, the International Triathlon Union allowed Russian juniors to compete with the flag and the national anthem. Already in April, Russian athletes can go to the World Triathlon Championships in Spain and Uzbekistan.
In addition, the FIDE also allowed Russian chess players to participate in international team and individual tournaments using national symbols.
