According to the source, the police charged four men over the age of 60 with rape and murder. The case in question is the 1982 case in which 16-year-old Roxanne Sharp was murdered in the woods of St. Tammany Parish, about 30 miles north of New Orleans. The investigation was then complicated by a lack of evidence and witnesses.
Last year, investigators asked a media company to produce a podcast about the case. The six-episode project caused a public stir, after which the police began to receive witness reports, which made it possible to reconstruct the circumstances of the accident and the girl’s social circle in the last days of her life.
According to police spokesman Mark Gremillion, testimony helped determine where Sharp was and who she was with before her death. Charges were filed against Perry Wayne Taylor, Darrell Dean Spell, Carlos Cooper, and Billy Williams Jr. Cooper and Taylor are already serving sentences in other cases, while Williams and Spell were recently arrested.
