Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the army to “launch a strong strike” on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, his office announced.
The reason for this is the violation of the ceasefire by Hezbollah, which fired missiles and drones at northern Israel and at Israeli units stationed in southern Lebanon.
The ceasefire in Lebanon was one of Tehran’s conditions for continuing negotiations with the United States. On April 16, Donald Trump announced that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to a 10-day ceasefire. The next day, he promised that Israel would no longer strike Lebanon because the United States had “prevented” it from doing so. On April 24, the US President announced that the truce between Israel and Lebanon would be extended for three weeks. “We will work with Lebanon to restore order in this country,” Trump said. “I actually think it can be done quite easily.”
