Rosselkhoznadzor warned citizens against selling pigweed seeds in the markets

Unscrupulous businessmen sell seeds of Sosnowski pigweed, an invasive weed that can cause burns on the skin, on the market. Olga Zakharova, Head of the Department of Inland Phytosanitary, Land Supervision, Quality Control and Grain Safety of Rosselkhoznadzor, spoke about this on Wednesday, April 29.

— We will continue the story of working with markets to prevent such abuses. Ordinary people, summer residents, rural residents and everyone who buys seeds for their land do not violate the law either, she said TASS.

She said department staff recently made a trial purchase of hogweed used in cooking. They are currently awaiting the results of a study that will allow them to determine whether attackers are trying to sell the plant of the same name under the guise of weed.

Moscow Bar Association lawyer Olesya Slezkina reported that administrative and criminal liability may be faced due to the cultivation of sage (Salvia divinorum) in summer cottages, which is not equivalent to ordinary medicinal or ornamental sage.

According to it, this type of sage is included in the list of approved plants that contain narcotic substances, psychotropic substances, or their precursors.
