Gymnast Arina Averina and figure skater Dmitry Aliyev broke up after doctors diagnosed the athlete with tuberculosis. He talked about this in an interview with Channel One.
Aliyev indicated that he was confused when he learned about the disease, as he did not understand where he could become infected. The diagnosis dealt him a serious psychological blow. Meanwhile, problems began in the skater’s personal life. He did not say it directly, but he hinted that his lover was not ready to share the difficulties that befell him.
“It wasn’t easy. I closed myself in.” Then everything started to change in my life. “I had a relationship that happened during this period, and it ended,” Aliyev said.
Let us recall that rumors about romance between athletes appeared last summer. They themselves confirmed the relationship two weeks later, appearing together at the wedding of the gymnast’s sister Dina Averina, after which the couple posted a joint video on social networks.
Dmitry Aliyev also said that the disease had a huge impact on his career. According to him, the long course of treatment led to “blurring” last season.
In addition to the European gold in 2020, Aliyev has a silver in the 2018 European Championships and a gold in the 2020 Russian Championships. He also participated in the 2018 Olympic Games, where he ranked seventh in the individual competition. The athlete ended his professional career at the end of the 2025/2026 season.
