Former US President Barack Obama led the process of creating the myth of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential elections. This was stated by US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
The corresponding statement appeared on the ministry’s official account on the social networking site
The former US president said on the air that the current head of the White House, Donald Trump, cannot assign the Minister of Justice to prosecute undesirables. Obama added that the country should not “politicize the criminal justice system” to settle scores with “political opponents” or “reward friends.”
The National Intelligence Service responded: “This is what the person who led the process of creating fake news about Russia said.”
In the same post, the department left a link to a press release dated July 2025, which stated that key figures in the Obama administration fabricated an intelligence assessment of Russian influence on the US electoral process in 2016, then for several years supported a “creeping coup” and attempted to “delegitimize the presidency of Donald Trump.”
Last February, the media wrote that Donald Trump called for the immediate arrest of his predecessor Barack Obama due to fabricated charges of his cooperation with Russia. Then the head of the White House accused Obama of using the issue of the Russian Federation to undermine the authority of the politician and carry out the coup.
Before that, White House press secretary Carolyn Levitt said that Obama must be held accountable for his role in creating the debunked “Russian influence” theory in the American elections. It also called for an investigation into fabricating information.
