The Government of the Russian Federation approved a resolution aimed at improving the quality and availability of mobile communications and the Internet in rural areas and on federal highways. Under the new decree, large telecom operators will have the opportunity to share one base station in settlements with a population of less than a thousand people, as well as on certain sections of federal highways.
The procedure for creating a list of these areas will be carried out annually. Roskomnadzor will send proposals for the inclusion of regions to Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communication by March 15.
The administration will review these proposals within the next 30 days and send them to telecom operators to confirm the technical feasibility of sharing equipment. Priority will be given to settlements with the largest population and road sectors with the least number of operators.
The final list will be approved by September 1st of each year. The document will subsequently be published within three days after approval. This decision aims to significantly increase the availability of modern communications services for residents of remote settlements and motorists, and it follows from document.
The head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Media of Russia, Maksut Shadayev, recently said that the government intends to provide all small settlements with mobile Internet of the LTE standard by 2030. To achieve this task, it is planned to finance the installation of appropriate base stations.
