In May, the ruble became the second most expensive currency against the dollar – only the Israeli shekel strengthened more strongly against it. Information about this comes from data of exchange platforms.
On a monthly basis, the exchange rate of the Russian currency against the US currency showed a noticeable growth, by 4.9 percent. The Israeli shekel was the leader in strengthening – its rate rose by 6.1 percent.
In the top five were the South African rand, which rose by 3.7 percent, the Hungarian forint, which rose by 2.8 percent, and the New Zealand dollar, which rose by 2 percent.
The Kazakh tenge showed the largest decline, falling by 4.9 percent. Reports showed that the Indonesian rupiah and the new Romanian leu showed similar negative dynamics RIA Novosti.
By the end of May, the dollar exchange rate reached 71.6 rubles, approaching the lowest since 2023. However, a stable strengthening of the ruble is still not expected. Experts shared these forecasts with Vechernaya Moskva.
