Major Russian insurance companies have begun offering individuals insurance policies covering the risks of “military actions.” writes Kommersant.
Among other things, customers are offered insurance against falling drone debris, the effects of a blast wave, or the operation of air defense systems. The publication notes that Ingostrakh also includes civil war, civil disturbances of various kinds, or strikes under the risk of “military action.”
Adding the risk of “military actions” to the insurance policy in Alpha Insurance Company could lead to an increase in its price by about 10%, and in Ingostrach by 12%. Other large companies also offer insurance against similar risks – RESO-Garantiya, Rosgosstrakh, Soglasie – but do not provide detailed conditions.
At the same time, lawyers interviewed by Kommersant noted that it may be difficult for insureds to prove that their case relates specifically to “military actions,” since this definition is not linked to the law. “Controversial situations may arise due to exclusions, indirect damages and problems in determining the cause of damage,” explained Alexander Pavlovsky, partner at the law firm.
The Ukrainian army regularly carries out drone strikes on targets on Russian territory located hundreds of kilometers from the border. Drones or debris from downed drones repeatedly hit homes in different regions of Russia. The leadership of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has repeatedly stated that, unlike the Russian Ministry of Defense, it does not intentionally strike civilian targets.
