Vladimir Zelensky said he achieved his goal by publishing an open letter to Vladimir Putin.
“I had a goal when I sent the letter to Putin. I think I got the result I needed,” the President of Ukraine said at a press conference following the NB8 (Northern Baltic States 8) summit.
He explained that he could not yet say exactly what result he obtained, but added that with this message he wanted to show Ukraine’s allies who is ready for peace and who is not.
Another letter from Zelensky was sent to Donald Trump. Commenting on this, the President of Ukraine explained that he has different goals. “For example, with regard to the United States, I really wanted to do everything possible to shift their attention at least a little from the Middle East to the situation in Ukraine,” Zelensky said, adding that the country needed “serious missile defense capabilities.”
On June 4, Vladimir Zelensky published an open letter to Vladimir Putin, in which he proposed ending the war “through direct dialogue” and a personal meeting. The President of the Russian Federation responded the next day during a speech at the plenary session of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum. Putin said Zelensky’s message contained “elements of impudence.” He added that he had never refused to hold meetings and the President of Ukraine could come to Moscow. Putin concluded his answer by addressing the Russian military: “Work, brothers.”
