Donald Trump said that the United States should respond to Iran for shooting down an American helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz.
Here’s what he wrote on his social network Truth Social:
Our excellent military has just informed me that last night the Iranians shot down one of our high-tech Apache helicopters patrolling the Strait of Hormuz. There were two pilots on board. Both are alive and unharmed. However, the United States has a responsibility to respond to this attack.
The US President did not specify what the response would be.
A US AH-64 Apache attack helicopter crashed off the coast of Oman in the Strait of Hormuz. I mentioned June 9, The New York Times. US Central Command confirmed that the crew members were rescued. But at the time, it was not clear what caused the helicopter to crash and whether Iranian forces were involved.
The US-Iran ceasefire, which has been in effect since early April, has been technically violated several times due to tit-for-tat strikes, but Trump says the peace deal is “largely agreed upon.” On June 9, he said that the United States would declare “total victory” over Iran within two weeks.
