US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that the United States carried out strikes on 140 targets in Iran on the night of July 12. The US military said, CNN reported, that the third series of attacks in a week on military targets in Iran were in response to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps bombing civilian ships.
Iran, in turn, announced strikes against targets linked to the United States in the Persian Gulf. Reports carried by Iranian media stated that ballistic missiles were fired at the Al Udeid military base in Qatar, which is used by the US military. The Qatari authorities reported that three citizens were injured while intercepting Iranian missiles, including a child.
Logistics centers and refueling platforms for US Navy aircraft carriers were also attacked at the port of Duqm in Oman, a communications center and military radar in Bahrain, and military targets in Kuwait, including the Patriot surface-to-air missile system.
On June 18, the United States and Iran announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding, which included, among other things, a 60-day ceasefire and the opening of shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The United States and Iran exchanged strikes several times in the following weeks, but the two countries insisted on their commitment to the ceasefire agreement. On July 8, US President Donald Trump announced that the ceasefire with Iran was “complete.”
