“Russian State Fundamentals” will become a compulsory subject in all universities in Russia

Russian universities will have four subjects whose study will be compulsory for all students. This was stated by Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Valkov.

These subjects are the Russian language, philosophy, history, and “Fundamentals of the Russian State.”

Valkov stressed that these specializations “will be studied regardless of their future profession by all students without exception, and again regardless of the form and level of training.” The minister did not specify when exactly this would happen.

The “Fundamentals of the Russian State” course, developed under the leadership of the political bloc of the Russian presidential administration, began being taught in selected Russian universities in 2023. Meduza’s sources in the Kremlin said its main goal was to transform students into “patriotic intellectuals.”

What do they tell new Russian students about the “Foundations of the State”? For example, they were told that the annexation of Ukrainian territory was a “bright geopolitical victory,” and that under Stalin there were free elections in the Soviet Union (and no repression).
