As of September 1, MRI can be performed in Russia without a doctor’s referral

As of September 1, 2026, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be performed without a doctor’s referral. This follows from the document of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

The document states: “MRI studies may be performed without a prescription from the treating physician (paramedic, obstetrician (midwife)).

MRI is often prescribed to detect diseases of the central nervous system, musculoskeletal system, and internal organs. The procedure is done without X-ray reports TASS.
