The capital’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, said that on the night of June 22, 59 Ukrainian drones were destroyed as they approached Moscow.
City authorities began reporting that the drones had been shot down at 03:02 Moscow time; Sobyanin reported the last drone destroyed at 05:07.
Sobyanin did not report the consequences of the attack.
At night, the airports of the capital region – Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky – suspended operations due to a drone attack. By morning, restrictions on aircraft access were lifted and released.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, air defense forces shot down and intercepted 301 Ukrainian drones overnight. The drones were shot down over the territories of Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Rostov, Tambov, Tver, Tula, Smolensk, Moscow Region and Krasnodar Territories, in addition to the annexed Crimean Peninsula and the waters of the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
On the night and morning of June 18, Moscow and the Moscow region were attacked by about 200 Ukrainian drones. This was the largest attack on the Russian capital since the beginning of a large-scale war. The oil refinery in Kapotnia caught fire. In various cities in the Moscow region, 17 people were injured as a result of the night attacks, and an eight-year-old girl died.
