The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) allowed Russian athletes to participate in competitions under its auspices.
This was a result of the recent decision of the International Olympic Committee, which lifted restrictions on Russian athletes.
Russian national teams will be restored to the world rankings with the same number of points as at the time of the freeze.
The use of the Russian flag and national anthem is left to the discretion of FIVB and the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV). The decision will be made “in due course”, in consultation with relevant international sporting organisations.
The previous day, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended removing all restrictions on Russian athletes, as well as temporarily restoring the rights of the Russian Olympic Committee. Russian athletes were suspended from participating in international competitions after the start of the major war between Russia and Ukraine in 2022.
Sources told the British newspaper The Telegraph that the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the European Football Association (UEFA) have no plans yet to lift restrictions imposed on the admission of Russian clubs and teams into international tournaments.
