Apple raised the prices of MacBooks, iPads, and other devices by about 20% due to rising costs of memory chips and storage devices. About this Reports Bloomberg.
In particular, the cost of the MacBook Neo rose from $599 to $699, the 13-inch MacBook Air from $1,099 to $1,299, the 14-inch Macbook Pro from $1,699 to $1,999, and the 16-inch MacBook Pro now starts at $2,999.
The price for the 11-inch iPad Pro has risen from $999 to $1,199, and for the 13-inch model from $1,299 to $1,499. The base iPad model now costs $449 (previously $349), and the iPad mini costs $599 (previously $499). The iMac desktop now starts at $1,499 (previously $1,299).
The price increase has not yet affected the iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods, but the company admitted that price adjustments for other devices are possible in the future.
Bloomberg notes that such a widespread price increase has never happened in Apple’s history.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, had previously announced Apple’s plans to raise prices. “We are doing everything we can to mitigate cost increases and try to protect customers from those increases, but the situation has become unsustainable,” he told the Wall Street Journal. Cook highlighted the high prices of DRAM memory modules used by artificial intelligence companies. Apple’s president said that due to the increasing demand for these chips, their price has risen sharply.
