Courts in Russia have equated the number 666 with the “extreme” symbol – Medusa

Courts in Russia have begun fining the country’s residents for the three-six leaflets, deeming them propaganda, which have been declared “extremist” in the country, RIA Novosti reported.

The government agency studied court rulings and concluded that the courts began mentioning the number 666 among the global symbols of Satanists. The courts also include an inverted Christian cross, a pentagram, and an image of Baphomet as such.

Thus, a resident of Tyumen was fined a thousand rubles for posting images of Baphomet, No. 666, the pentagram and ritual sacrifice on a social network.

A resident of Voronezh received the same fine for a post on VKontakte with three sixes, a five-pointed star, an inverted cross and the inscription “Satan”.

In Tomsk, a local resident was sentenced to 14 days of administrative detention because of a tattoo on his fingers bearing the image of 666 and Nazi runes.

The Russian Supreme Court declared the International Satanism movement an “extremist organization” in July 2025. The Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Justice filed a lawsuit to ban this movement after the corresponding initiative of Patriarch Kirill.
