FIFA will discuss the acceptance of Russian national teams and clubs following the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee

FIFA will consider the issue of admitting Russian clubs and national teams to tournaments, following recommendations by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to lift sanctions on athletes from the Russian Federation. This was announced by Sky News journalist, Rob Harris, on Tuesday, July 7, on the social network X.

Earlier, the International Olympic Committee decided to restore membership in the Russian Olympic Committee and recommended lifting the restrictions imposed on Russian athletes.

– FIFA has been informed of the International Olympic Committee’s decision. The journalist quoted a FIFA statement that the organization will analyze it before deciding on additional steps in coordination with relevant stakeholders.

Russian clubs and national teams have been banned from participating in FIFA and UEFA tournaments since 2022 due to the conflict in Ukraine.

On the same day, Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev said that the IOC’s decision to restore the rights of the Russian Olympic Committee was a green light for international federations to restore the rights of all athletes in the country.
