The “Chronicles”, “Redrum” and “Pier 28” bars on Nekrasova Street in St. Petersburg suspended their operations and closed their doors, according to the “Bomaga” website and the “Sopaca.ru” website.
On May 13, the Chronicles posted a story on their Instagram with a warning that the bar would not be open in the coming days: “We will report the news. Thank you and hope to see you soon!”
Redrum told reporters that the bar was closed due to an inspection by Rospotrebnadzor, possibly after a noise complaint from a neighbour. The complainant, according to the union, “immediately took a rather tough position” and stated more than once that he would achieve the closure of bars on Nekrasov Street.
Redrum told Paper: “We tried to engage in dialogue, discuss the situation and find some kind of settlement that suits everyone, but unfortunately, the person was not in the mood to listen or negotiate.” The institution is now awaiting trial.
As Pepper notes, conflicts between St. Petersburg bars and the residents of the buildings in which they operate began in the 2000s. So, for example, it happened with the main bar street in Russia at one time – Rubinshteina.
In the 2020s, the fight against pubs spread to other streets. Security forces repeatedly carried out raids on Nekrasova Street in the “writers’ quarter”, which became the new bar center of St. Petersburg.
St. Petersburg’s bars will face new problems in 2025. First, the city authorities have tightened the law against the so-called “nalivakas” – small establishments that sell alcohol at night, thanks to a catering license. For this reason, many bars have closed or moved, the paper wrote. Later, police began confiscating homemade alcohol from bars for “non-compliance with alcohol labeling requirements.”
