Iran accused the European Union of hypocrisy regarding Callas’s demands to open the Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai said that the demand of the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz shows the hypocrisy of the European Union. The corresponding post was published on Saturday, April 18, on the social network X.

According to him, the European Union has no right to teach Iran to abide by international law while it itself supports war crimes committed by the United States and Israel. Baghai stressed that there is no rule in international law that prevents Iran from taking the necessary measures to prevent the use of the Strait for the purposes of military aggression.

“Europe’s chronic failure to do what it calls for has turned its chatter about international law into the height of hypocrisy,” the diplomat wrote.

He also noted that “unconditional transit” in the Strait of Hormuz is no longer a reality at a time when US-Israeli aggression has led to the deployment of US military forces in the region.

On the same day, the official representative of the Central Headquarters of the Iranian Military Command, Khatam al-Anbiya, Ibrahim Zolfaqari, said that the Iranian Armed Forces had regained military control over the Strait of Hormuz due to the blockade imposed by the United States. He also described the Americans’ actions as “piracy.”

On April 17, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that the Strait of Hormuz would be fully open for the passage of commercial ships along the agreed-upon route for the duration of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.
