Fox News and NBC News reported, citing their sources, that the suspect in the shooting was 21-year-old Nasir Best from Maryland.
Best had already attracted the attention of law enforcement and was suffering from mental problems. Fox News also reported that he was arrested by the Secret Service on June 26, 2025, for making threats against agents, and on July 10 of the same year, for entering a restricted area.
