The FIFA World Cup kicked off at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on June 11. Before the start of the first match, an opening ceremony was held. During the ceremony, singer Shakira performed the official anthem of the World Cup – “Day Day.” The ceremony ended with the removal of the flags of all 48 participating countries. In the first match of the tournament, Mexico and South Africa took to the field. The current tournament will be the longest in history, and will continue until July 19. During this time, 104 matches will be played. In addition to Mexico, matches will be held in the United States and Canada. The final match will be held at MetLife Stadium in the suburbs of New York.
