The operator of Nord Stream has been denied compensation due to the explosion of gas pipelines

The High Court in London has ruled that Western insurers should not cover damage caused by a Nord Stream gas pipeline sub-explosion. About this He writes Quoted from the Financial Times Court decision.

The operator of Nord Stream has demanded approximately 580 million euros from insurance companies for the blow-up of the gas pipeline. If Nord Stream had won, insurance companies would have had to pay one of the largest compensation payments in history for damage to infrastructure.

However, Judge Claire Mulder sided with the insurers, acknowledging that the damage from the Nord Stream explosion was directly or indirectly linked to the Russia-Ukraine war. Nord Stream, in turn, insisted that the war was merely a backdrop or a pretext for disruption.

During the six-week trial, Russia, Ukraine and the United States were identified as possible defendants in the bombings, but the judge did not specify which party was responsible for the destruction of Nord Stream.

Explosions occurred on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines in September 2022. According to media reports, they were committed by Ukrainian saboteurs. In the case of explosions that occurred in the European Union in 2025, two citizens of Ukraine were arrested – Sergey Kuznetsov (he Under arrest in Germany) and Vladimir Zhuravlev (released from custody). Officially, Ukraine denies any involvement in the bombings.
