Residents of the Polish cities of Chelm and Przemysl proposed returning the titles of “savior cities” received from Ukraine. This was announced by mayors Jakub Banaszek and Wojciech Bacon on Wednesday, June 3, in a joint statement on the social network Facebook*.
According to them, such awards only have meaning when they are based on honesty, truth and mutual respect between peoples. The glorification of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army** (UPA**), according to city leaders, denies all authentic values and historical truth.
“We are receiving questions from residents and journalists about whether cities in this situation should return the title of ‘Savior City’ again – a gesture of protest and a way to draw international attention to what happened,” the statement read.
The mayors emphasized that their assistance to Ukraine was sincere, sincere and selfless.
On June 1, the Ukrainian flag was removed from Poland’s Lublin City Hall following the decision of the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, to assign the name “Heroes of the UPA**” to a unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The previous day, Polish lawmaker Wodzmierz Skalek said Zelensky should be urgently deprived of Poland’s highest state honour, the Order of the White Eagle, because he insults her.
