Russian telecom companies have begun warning users of their apps about the possibility of service outages when using VPN services, RIA Novosti reported on April 14.
The MTS application informs users: “VPN is enabled. Data may not be displayed.” Megafon writes: “Disable the VPN so that everything works fine in the application.” Beeline also recommends disabling the VPN – “the application works better without it.”

Earlier on April 14, major Russian services began restricting functionality for VPN-enabled users. For some Russians, Yandex, VK, Ozon, marketplaces and banking apps have stopped working.
The Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation previously demanded that large Internet platforms in Russia by April 15 limit the ability to use their services under a VPN. The Ministry for Digital Development threatened that in the event of a failure, the services could be removed from “whitelists” – that is, the list of websites and applications available when the Internet is turned off.
