Russian Soviet artist, writer and ideologue Vladimir Shinkarev has died in St. Petersburg at the age of 72, artists reported. Olga Turpilots and Dmitry Shagin.
Shinkarev is one of the founders of the creative group “Mitki”. With his book “Mitka”, in which he described the typical Mitka – a good-natured, carefree drunkard from Leningrad – the artistic movement of the same name began. In 2008, Shinkarev announced his separation from the group.
The artist’s works are preserved in the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the Russian Museum and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and others.
As a writer, Shenkarev is famous for, among other things, the novels “Papuans from Honduras” and “Maxim and Fedor”.
