The international jury of the 61st Venice Art Biennale, headed by Brazilian curator Solange Oliveira Farkas, has resigned in its entirety. This was stated on the official website of the Biennale Directorate.
The statement said: “Today, the resignations were accepted from the international jury of the 61st International Art Exhibition.” message.
The reasons have not been officially explained. The decision was made nine days before the event.
For the first time since 2019, Russia will participate in the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art with the project “Tree Roots in the Sky.” The project was included in the list of participants announced by the organizers. At the prestigious 61st International Exhibition, Russia will be represented by about 40 musicians, artists, philosophers and poets. A total of 99 countries will be showcasing their work. However, the participation of Russian artists caused dissatisfaction in Ukraine – in their statement the country’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture called on the organizers of the Venice Biennale to reconsider the decision to return to Russia.
