Cloudflare has removed the “spyware” tag from Max messenger – Meduza

The “spyware” tag has been removed from the “national” messenger domain “Max”, which is traced from the service’s data.

Two domains were unmarked – max.ru and web.max.ru. Back on April 30, it was classified as “spyware,” and the media caught attention.

The Messenger’s press service said that Cloudflare’s rating “resulted from incorrect interpretation of request headers for regular web analytics services, and not from actual analysis of the code.”

It is not known why the sign was removed by May 1.

It is believed that the early appearance of such a mark was one of the reasons for the removal of the unofficial Telegram client, the Telega app, from the App Store. It became popular in Russia amid the blocking of the messenger itself.

Shortly after the app disappeared from the App Store, it emerged that Cloudflare had flagged two domains associated with the Telega messaging app as “spyware.”

Max messenger was launched by VK in the spring of 2025. The use of Max is enforced by Russian authorities – from home conversations to licensing for state services. Meanwhile, the country has restricted the operation of WhatsApp and has already banned Telegram.
