Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said that Israel bombed the Lebanese capital, Beirut. This is the first Israeli raid on Lebanon in a month, according to the Times of Israel.
According to Netanyahu and Katz, the target of the strike was the commander of Hezbollah forces, Al-Radwan. This unit is said to be responsible for bombing Israeli populated areas and harming the army.
The Israeli army has not yet commented on the attack on Lebanon.
In late April, Netanyahu was reported to have given the order for a “strong strike” against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. The Israeli authorities justified their decision in this regard by Hezbollah violating the ceasefire. The group fired missiles and drones at northern Israel and at Israeli units stationed in southern Lebanon.
This is the first Israeli strike on Beirut in the past month. The previous Israeli military attack took place on April 8, and on April 16, Israel and Lebanon agreed to a ceasefire. Shortly after the truce entered into force, Lebanon announced that Israel was violating it. After that, US President Donald Trump promised that Israel would no longer bomb Lebanon.
