Journalists asked Russian President Dmitry Peskov’s press secretary to tell him whether the Kremlin is following the work of director Andrei Zvyagintsev and whether they will watch his film “Minotaur,” which is being shown at the Cannes Film Festival. This is what he answered:
Now this is not entirely the Kremlin’s business. We have the Ministry of Culture that issues rental certificates. Since we don’t know what this movie is about and what’s in it, it’s hard to say anything yet.
“Minotaur” is Andrey Zvyagintsev’s first film in nine years. In his review of Medusa, film critic Anton Dolin wrote that this is “the first feature film about Russia in the ‘special military operation’ era.”
“Minotaur” participates in the main competition program of the Cannes International Film Festival and is considered one of the main contenders for the main awards. Winners will be announced on the evening of Saturday, May 23.
After the beginning of the great war between Russia and Ukraine, Andrey Zvyagintsev decided not to return to the Russian Federation. He lives in France.
