On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted the resignation of the President of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, of his own free will. Fyodor Shchukin was appointed acting president of the republic.
Malikov has held the position of President of the Republic since October 2021, and before that he served as Acting President of the region.
