Death toll from shooting in Kyiv rises to seven – Meduza

In Kiev, a local resident who was injured in a shooting in the Golosyevsky district on April 18 died in hospital, city mayor Vitali Klitschko said. This brings the death toll from the terrorist attack to seven.

Klitschko said: “The victim was in a very serious condition. The doctors fought for his life, but unfortunately they could not save him.”

Seven people injured as a result of the shooting, including a child, are still in hospitals. Four adult victims are in intensive care.

The shooting occurred in Kyiv on the evening of April 18. The attacker opened fire on passersby and then barricaded himself in the supermarket. He was killed while storming the store. The motives of the perpetrator are unknown.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine stated that the attack was committed by a 58-year-old Moscow citizen. As the media learned, his name was Dmitry Vasilchenkov.

The police said that the attacker served in the automobile forces of the Odessa region until 2005, and since 2017 he has lived in Bakhmut, Donetsk region. It is unclear when exactly he moved to Kyiv.

Ukrainian authorities are investigating the shooting as a terrorist attack. In addition, investigators are examining material related to the negligent actions of patrolmen who fled the scene during the shooting and left the wounded.
