President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky delivered a speech on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance and victory over Nazism in World War II.
In his speech, Zelensky noted that millions of Ukrainians were “part of various armies of the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition” and that their contribution to the defeat of Nazi Germany was “one of the largest.”
Unfortunately, 81 years later, we are once again forced to stop evil – completely too, bringing nothing but ruin and thuggery, based on a similar ideology of hate. An updated version of the Nazi, labeled “Made in Russia”.
Zelensky thanked everyone who helps Ukraine defend itself from the Russian regime. “Defending people’s lives and freedom of peoples from Putin is a very worthy tribute to the memory of those who did not allow Hitler to conquer Europe and the world,” the Ukrainian president said.
Against the backdrop of the Russian invasion, Ukraine abandoned the Soviet model of commemorating World War II in favor of the European model. Previously, the country officially had two commemorative days – May 8 as Remembrance and Reconciliation Day, and May 9 as Victory over Nazism Day. In 2023, May 9 was canceled as a memorial day.
