Eight children were killed in a shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, NBC News reported, citing police.
The accident occurred on the morning of April 19. Police responded to a call after reports of a domestic dispute. At the scene, they discovered that the shooting had occurred in two homes in the city. One of the victims took refuge in a third nearby house.
A total of ten people were injured as a result of the shooting. Eight children, aged between one and 14 years, died.
Police believe there was only one shooter. He fled the crime scene and stole a car, but was soon killed by patrolmen during a chase.
The attacker’s motives remain unknown. Police said almost nothing about his identity, except that some of the dead children were his relatives.
“This is a tragic situation, perhaps the worst tragedy that has ever happened in Shreveport,” Shreveport Mayor Tom Arsenault said, noting that the entire community is sad.
