The Kuibyshevsky District Court of St. Petersburg closed the criminal case of the poet Glykiri Olonov (real name Kirill Yakovlev), who was accused of “propaganda for suicide.” Olonov was released from pre-trial detention, according to the First Administration Human Rights Project.
“Such clean legal victories do not happen every day! It is ridiculous from the point of view of common sense and from the point of view of the law, that the case ended fairly – the person was released from criminal responsibility,” said the lawyer of the First Department, Yevgeny Smirnov.

The case against Olonov was initiated under the article “Organization of activities aimed at incitement to suicide.” It provides for imprisonment for a period ranging from five to 15 years. Olonov was arrested in August 2025 and then placed under arrest.
The reason for this case was the satirical poem “Five Thousand Thoughts of a Disastrous Event” written by Olonov. The investigation found “hidden calls for suicide and self-harm.”
Glykiri Olonov is a laureate of many poetry awards. It was published in “Al-Alam” magazine. Russian propaganda media drew attention to the fact that Olonov studied at the European University and the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences (Shaninka), and was also planning to go to the UK on a Hill Foundation scholarship. RIA Novosti described this fund as “the successor to the work of the Khodorkovsky Foundation, which is banned in Russia.”
