Krasnodar Region authorities announced that the sea was polluted with petroleum products after a Ukrainian drone attack on the Tuapse oil refinery.

The Krasnodar Territory Operations Headquarters said that as a result of a strike by Ukrainian drones on an oil refinery in Topas on April 16, an oil leak occurred.

The operations headquarters said in a statement that the satellite image taken on April 19 shows an oil slick near Tuapse.

The area of water contamination at the operations headquarters was estimated at 10,000 square metres. To localize pollution, booms have been installed, and six ships from the port of Tuapse are involved in eliminating pollution.

The Operations Headquarters also reported that due to a Ukrainian drone attack on the port on April 16, oil products ended up in the Tuapse River. 750 meters of booms and special devices for collecting oil products have been installed on the river.

As a result of a strike by Ukrainian drones on the port of Tuapse, a powerful fire broke out, the elimination of which was reported only in the afternoon of April 19. On the night of April 20, the port was again attacked by drones, and the authorities of the Krasnodar region reported that a fire broke out there again.

In early April, an oil slick was discovered off the coast of Anapa. The Krasnodar Territory Operations Headquarters reported that more than 200 birds were found on the coast on April 11 and 12, killed or injured by the oil spill. According to the Operations Headquarters, the oil spill could have been caused by Ukrainian drone strikes on civilian ships in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov.

Environmental project “Transparent World” InstalledThat in the area where the oil spill occurred, there was the tanker Sophia, which, according to “Vestki” is part of the shadow fleet that transports Russian oil to circumvent sanctions. Transparent World did not mention the possible cause of the oil leak. The Ukrainian side previously announced attacks on tankers belonging to the Shadow Fleet, including in the Black Sea.
