Vladimir Zelensky said that Russia is preparing an attack on Ukraine, including Kiev, using the Oreshnik medium-range missile system.
The President of Ukraine wrote about this in his Telegram channel:
There was a report from our intelligence: We received information, including from American and European partners, about the Russians preparing a strike using Nut. We verify this information.
We see indications of preparation for a joint strike on the territory of Ukraine, especially on Kiev, using various weapons. The medium-range weapons mentioned may be in such a strike.
Zelensky called on the residents of Ukraine to “respond conscientiously to signals of air strikes, starting this evening,” and to use shelters. The president added that Ukraine is preparing for air defense and will respond to every Russian strike.

The previous day, Vladimir Putin accused the Ukrainian armed forces of launching a “terrorist attack” on the pedagogical college residence in Starobelsk, located in the Russian-controlled part of the Luhansk region. According to the Russian Emergencies Ministry, 18 people were killed as a result of this strike.
The President of the Russian Federation instructed the Russian Ministry of Defense to “submit its proposals” on how to respond to this attack.
Oreshnik is a Russian medium-range missile system and the missile of the same name. The Russian Armed Forces announced that they used it for the first time in November 2024, when they launched a missile attack on the Dnieper River. In December 2025, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Oreshnik had undertaken a combat mission in Belarus.
