French actress Nathalie Baye has died at the age of 77, according to what Le Monde newspaper reported, citing Agence France-Presse.
Bay’s family said that she died at her home in Paris, adding that the actress had been diagnosed with an illness.
The actress has starred in more than 90 films, worked with major French directors and won the French National Film César Award four times. Among others, Bay appeared in Steven Spielberg’s film “Catch Me If You Can” (2002) in the role of the mother of hero Leonardo DiCaprio. Bey played one of her final roles in Downton Abbey 2 (2022).
French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on the social networking site “X”: “We loved Nathalie Baye very much. With her voice, smiles and humility, she accompanied the last decades of French cinema, from François Truffaut to Toni Marshall. The actress we loved and dreamed of grew up with.”
