The Grand Prix of the 79th Cannes Film Festival (the second most important award) was awarded to the film “Minotaur” by Russian director Andrei Zvyagintsev. This was announced at the closing ceremony of the film festival on the evening of May 23.
The main award, the Palme d’Or, went to the film “Fjord” by director Christian Mungiu.
The Jury Prize, the third most important award at the Cannes Film Festival, went to Valeska Griesbach for her film “The Adventure of a Dream.”
The Best Director award was shared by Pavel Pawlikowski (“Homeland”) and the creators of “Black Ball,” Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrosi.
The award for best screenplay went to Emmanuel Marie for “A Man of His Time.”
The Best Actor award went to Emmanuel Macchia and Valentin Campani for the film “The Coward” directed by Lukas Dhont. The Best Actress award went to Virginie Ivayer and Tao Okamoto, who played Ryusuke Hamaguchi in Suddenly.
22 films competed in the main competition at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. The competition jury was headed by South Korean director Park Chan-wook.
