What does the film’s plot depend on?
The film takes the viewer back to the early 2000s, an era in which a new visual language for fashion was born and personal stories were woven into fashion culture. The plot centers on the creation of one of Moss’s most famous paintings, “Portrait of the Nude,” which Freud painted while she was pregnant. In 2002, the model was at the peak of her international fame, and Freud was known as a controversial artist and the grandson of the founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud.
Their nine-month collaboration turned into a real media story: meetings several times a week, hours-long night sessions in the studio, and then Kate’s pregnancy – all this gave rise to rumors about the relationship between the model and the artist.
In 2002, this union was pursued by the entire cultural world, and the tabloids attributed not only business relations to the heroes. The nude was later sold to an anonymous collector for £3.9 million, and the painting remains in a private collection.
Interesting facts:
- Visually, the film resembles a fashion editorial: a restrained color palette, and an emphasis on materiality, light and texture, transform each frame into an independent statement. Here aesthetics are no less important than plot, and style becomes a continuation of the characters’ personalities.
- The film’s director and screenwriter, James Lucas, won the Academy Award for Best Short Feature Film in 2015 and 16 other awards at international film festivals.
- An exclusive screening of the film took place on April 22 in Moscow as part of the 48th Moscow International Film Festival – ahead of its world premiere in June. The special moment was the director’s video message, which was specially recorded for the show’s guests.
Also, nearly 20 years after the release of “The Devil Wears Prada,” the sequel to the popular comedy-drama premiered. What is known about “The Devil Wears Prada – 2” – in the article “Moscow Evening”.
