Ukraine has asked its Western allies for an additional $20 billion in military funding, Politico reported, citing a senior Ukrainian Defense Ministry official.
According to the newspaper’s interviewer, Kiev expects to spend this money to secure “an advantage on the battlefield.”
He said: “Everyone sees that Russia is burning. We want it to burn more, but for this we need funding.”
The issue of military assistance to Ukraine is expected to be one of the main topics at the NATO leaders’ summit in Ankara next July.
Ukraine’s allies have already committed to providing $38 billion in military aid in 2026. The target previously set by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is $60 billion.
Ukraine’s total defense budget in 2026 is 4.4 trillion hryvnia (about $100 billion).
