The former head of the Valery Gergiev Foundation Igor Zotov was sentenced in absentia by the Metropolitan Court on charges of theft of more than 28.7 million rubles. The man was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Lyudmila Nefedova, head of the press service of the capital’s prosecutor’s office, informed the Vechernaya Moscow newspaper about this on Monday, March 16.
β Taking into account the position of the State Prosecutor of the Tver Interdistrict Prosecutor’s Office, the court sentenced Zotov to 14 years in prison to be served in a correctional colony of public order, with a fine of 1.6 million rubles. βHe is also deprived of the right to engage in activities related to performing administrative functions in commercial organizations for a period of three years,β Nefedova said.
The attacker stole the money in November 2011. He then misled a cashier employee, who transferred the money to the defendant’s bank account under the guise of payment for a fake agreement.
Last August, fraudsters tried to defraud the Battalion Charitable Foundation in Dubna. The scammers wanted to get 500 thousand rubles for the evacuation of supposedly captured military personnel. One of the attackers was arrested and a criminal case was opened.
