US Treasury Unlikely Interim President of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez from the sanctions list. The Associated Press notes that this decision means that the United States has finally recognized Rodriguez as the legitimate president of Venezuela.
“We appreciate President Donald Trump’s decision as a step towards normalizing and strengthening relations between our countries,” Rodriguez wrote on the social media network “X”. She also expressed her hope that the United States would lift sanctions on Venezuela itself.
The United States designated Delcy Rodriguez and her brother Jorge during President Donald Trump’s first term “for their role in undermining Venezuelan democracy.”
On the night of January 3, the US military removed President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores, from Venezuela. It initially condemned “US armed aggression” and said Maduro remained the only legitimate president, but then appealed for Trump’s cooperation.
