President Donald Trump fired Pam Bondi as attorney general, CNN, Fox News, the New York Times and other media outlets reported April 2, citing sources. She will be replaced by Deputy District Attorney Todd Blanche, sources said.
Trump met with Bondi on the evening of April 1. According to Fox News, their meeting took place in the Oval Office before Trump addressed the nation about the war in Iran. During the meeting, Bondi learned of her resignation.
One of those sources said that by the time Trump began addressing Americans, Bondi had “already lost her job and was returning to Florida.”
According to CNN, Trump suggested that after leaving the Department of Justice, Bondi could be appointed as a judge.
Bondi has served as Attorney General since February 5, 2025. She previously served as Florida’s Attorney General from 2011 to 2019.
In 2019, during Trump’s first impeachment over allegations of abuse of power, Pam Bondi was one of his lawyers.
